Sleep Apnea is Serious!

Sleep Apnea causes your throat to close during sleep, which causes you to stop breathing for periods of time. To breathe again, your body must wake up. This cycle repeats itself over and over and over throughout the night, although you are often not aware of this sleep/wake cycle.

The closing of the airway or throat is what causes:

  • Snoring
  • Grumpiness and irritability
  • Movement and gasping in your sleep
  • Waking up tired after a “full night sleep”
  • Morning headaches
  • Feeling sleepy all day
  • Falling asleep during the day without meaning to do so
  • A lack of concentration and problems with memory
  • Motor skills and speech may also be affected

Other health issues are likely to develop with sleep apnea, such as high blood pressure, stroke and heart attack.
